An art teacher is an educator who specializes in teaching art to students.

An art teacher is an educator who specializes in teaching art to students. Art teachers may be found in primary, secondary, or postsecondary classrooms. In many school systems, they function as part of an interdisciplinary team that works collaboratively to provide children with a holistic education. Art teachers not only teach art, but also develop curriculum, work with students to establish goals and objectives, evaluate and provide feedback, collaborate with other team members to discuss classroom strategies, and develop lesson plans that engage students and align with instructional standards. In addition to academic instruction, they may also help students develop knowledge of art history and theory, engage in creative problem-solving, practice safe techniques in the use of art supplies, and build their aesthetic judgment and appreciation for the arts. Art teachers possess the artistic and technical skills necessary to make classroom instruction meaningful, inspire exploration, and foster a safe and inclusive learning environment. They also understand the importance of developing their own creative practice, engaging with their community, and staying abreast of new developments in the field. Art teachers model good citizenship, respect, and appreciation for the cultural and racial differences of their students, while reinforcing the idea that everyone can be an artist.
